Officials have released the name of the 2-year-old who was found dead in a Locust Grove swimming pool on Wednesday.
The child was identified as Dakoda Thomas Martin, according to Henry County Police Capt. Jason Bolton.
"An autopsy conducted today [Thursday] confirmed Dakoda died from drowning," Bolton said.
Authorities were reportedly notified of the case at approximately 12:15 p.m., Wednesday, by a resident on Peeksville Road in Locust Grove, Bolton said. According to him, the boy had gone missing from his home, and was later found in a pool at another home on the street.
"The pool did not have a fence around it," Bolton said Thursday. "The investigation is still ongoing."
On Wednesday, Bolton said police attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation on Martin in an attempt to save him.
"Paramedics and [emergency medical technicians] rushed him to Henry Medical Center," Bolton said. "Despite everyone's best efforts, he didn't make it, and was pronounced dead at the hospital."
Police had not determined how the child got to the house where he was found, or why he went there, Bolton said.
