Nearly 30 percent of Henry County’s 117,000 active voters came to the polls for the Republican and Democratic primaries Tuesday, said Henry County Elections and Registration Director Janet Shellnutt.
“It’s the best primary we had in a while,” she said. “We did 32,900. It’s the best we’ve had in a number of years. There were 19,000 in 2008, and 22,000 in 2010.
Shellnutt said voters in the northern portion of the county voted late Tuesday, which resulted in slowed counting.
“We got hit hard on the north end, from about 5 to 7 p.m.,” said Shellnutt.
