McDONOUGH — Candidates in the Republican runoff for Henry County Commission Chairman will take part in a debate on Public Broadcasting Atlanta.
The Atlanta Press Club Loudermilk-Young Debate Series will oversee the Aug. 15 debate between Chairman Elizabeth “B.J.” Mathis and her challenger, former Hampton Mayor Tommy N. Smith. It will originate from Rhodes Hall in midtown Atlanta, 1516 Peachtree Street, and will air on PBA Channel 30.
An airing date for the debate has not been announced.
A runoff between Mathis and Smith is set for Aug. 21. Smith edged out Mathis in the July 31 Republican primary, though neither achieved a majority of the vote. The runoff will determine whether Mathis or Smith will face Democrat Carlotta Harrell, in the November general election.
