Photo by Derrick Mahone Eagle’s Landing Christian lineman Isaac Rochell is one of the top-rated college prospects in the nation. The defensive/offensive lineman has committed to play at Notre Dame.

The new season has yet to begin, but 11 players from the Southern Crescent were named to one online publication’s preseason all-state teams.

Eagle’s Landing Christian led the way with four players from its team being named to the Class A all-state team by the Georgia High School Football Daily. Headlining the way for ELCA is Isaac Rochell, a mammoth lineman who committed to play at Notre Dame next season.

Also named to the Class A team from ELCA was standout running back/linebacker Keyante Green, who has committed to Purdue. Green, an all-state selection the last three years, was chosen for the linebacker spot.

Junior Josh Shockley was named to a linebacker spot, while D.J. Curl occupied one of the defensive back spots.

All the ELCA players except Shockley are seniors.

Lovejoy placed two on the Class AAAAAA team with all-state running back Travis Custis and linebacker Nathaniel Norwood. Last season, Custis led the Wildcats offense with 1,839 yards and 30 touchdowns, while Norwood was a key member of one of the state’s stingiest defenses.

Custis has verbally committed to play at Georgia Tech following his career at Lovejoy, which played in the Class AAAA finals last season.

There were five players in Class AAAA from the Southern Crescent named to the preseason all-state team. Jonesboro teammates Cameron Sutton and Taurean Ferguson made the team. Sutton, a Tennessee commitment, was chosen as the athlete while Ferguson, who has committed to Vanderbilt next season, was picked at a defensive back spot.

Sutton will play defensive back and wide receiver for the Cardinals this season. He will also handle most of the return duties and play some at quarterback as the Cardinals try to make consecutive playoff appearances for the first time in school history.

Bill Teknipp was named as the Class AAAA tight end, while Jordan Harris of Dutchtown was picked for one of the offensive linemen spots.

Harris has gave a commitment to sign with Middle Tennessee State during the signing period in February.

Rounding out the selections is Riverdale senior Troy Wyche, who has several Division I offers including Indiana and Southern Miss.
