McDONOUGH — Henry County Police released the name of the victim killed in a three-car accident.

Henry Police Sgt. Joey Smith said Jack Richard Duke died as a result of his injuries, in the fatal accident, which occurred Friday around 7:45 p.m., on Georgia Highway 81 East, at the intersection of Keys Ferry Road.

Police said Duke, 82, of McDonough had stopped his car and was waiting to turn into the Dollar General when he was struck from behind.

“It was determined that the driver of one vehicle rear-ended another, which sent the second vehicle into oncoming traffic and colliding with a third vehicle,” said Smith. “As a result of the accident, two patients were transported to Piedmont Henry Hospital. One patient was released with minor injuries.”

Smith said Henry County Traffic Investigators determined the accident was caused by James Theodore Henry III, of McDonough.

Henry, 35, was arrested and charged with the accident and death of Duke, Smith said.

He is suspected of drinking while driving when he allegedly caused a three-car crash. He also fled the scene of a fatal accident, according to authorities.

Henry appeared Saturday before Henry County Magistrate Court Judge Nichole A. Reynolds.

He is charged with first-degree felony homicide by vehicle, hit and run resulting in serious injury or death, driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding, reckless driving, following too close, and improper passing in no passing zone.

Henry remained in the Henry County Jail without bond at press time Tuesday.
