Francis Edward Gallagher

Francis Edward Gallagher, age 90, of Stockbridge, GA peacefully passed away on the 25th of August, 2012.

He was born in Mauch Chunk, Pennsylvania to a family of 9 children to the late Francis Patrick and Clara Gallagher. Francis graduated from Duquesne University in 1949 receiving a Bachelors degree in Arts and Sciences. He married Josephine Tatangelo of Pittsburgh, PA on August 31, 1949.

Francis lived and worked in Mauch Chunk for the railroad before joining the US Army at 18 in 1944 during WWII. He rose to the rank of Tech Sergeant and fought with the 104th Timberwolf Division in France and Germany. After graduating from Duquesne University in 1949 he reentered the Army as a Second Lieutenant in 1951 and fought in Korea War as part of the 25th Infantry Division as an Artillery Forward Observer. Making the Army a career he became an Air and Missile Defender rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel with his last wartime duty to the Military Assistance Group, Vietnam in 1968. He retired in 1977 after 27 years of service in San Francisco, California where he worked for the Bank of America for an additional 10 years. He was a member of the 104th Timberwolf Association and the Steeler Nation.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine Gallagher Stockbridge, GA; two sons: Michael (Cheryl) Gallagher, Kailua, HI and LTC (RET) Kevin (Gaye Lee) Gallagher, Stockbridge, GA; siblings: Claire Arrington, Columbus GA, James Gallagher, Jim Thorpe, PA, Patricia Smith, Jim Thorpe , PA and Ronald Gallagher, Jim Thorpe, PA; grandchildren: TSgt Sean Gallagher, CAPT Colin Gallagher, and 2nd LT Brennan Gallagher; great-grand children: Seana and Patrick.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, August 31, 2012 at St. James The Apostle Catholic Church with Rev. Chito Palang officiating. Interment will follow at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the USO in the name of Francis Gallagher.
