McDONOUGH — Jeffery Stephens of Lovejoy drew a crowd of onlookers as he belted out his best rendition of The Village People’s hit song “Y.M.C.A.” Saturday.
Stephens, 27, was visibly excited to take the karaoke stage during a Kindness Works Christmas Party for the local special needs community at McDonough Christian Church.
“I have fun with it every year,” he said.
Stephens was among about 100 people at the 10th annual party. The church gymnasium was filled with special needs residents and volunteers as they played games, danced and ate to celebrate the holiday season.
Coordinator Dana Fessler said the event has grown each year since its inception.
“This is the largest group we’ve had so far.”
Debbie Withers was one of the volunteers who assisted Fessler in putting the party together. She said others who gave their time for the event included Boy Scout Troop 99 from McDonough, disc jockey Alan Ross, the Rotary Club of Henry County, Chick-fil-A and McDonough Presbyterian Church.
