The Henry County Soil and Water Conservation District will be sponsoring its seedling giveaway Friday, in honor of Georgia’s Arbor Day. The district is partnering with the Henry County Master Gardeners during the annual event, which begins at 8:30 a.m.
Officials said the district has selected dogwood and Chickasaw plum seedlings for this year’s giveaway, which will be held at the following four locations: the USDA Service Center, at 333 Phillips Drive, in McDonough; Heritage Park, at 101 Lake Dow Road, in McDonough; the Locust Grove Municipal Building, at Ga. Highway 42, in Locust Grove; and Stockbridge City Hall, at 4640 North Henry Blvd., in Stockbridge.
The focus for this year’s Arbor Day celebration is “More Kids in the Woods,” in recognition of the rise in childhood diseases, such as obesity, diabetes and heart disease. For more on the giveaway, call the Natural Resources Conservation Service office at (770) 957-5705, ext. 3.
