Tanger Outlet Center, in Locust Grove, recently made separate $500 donations to the Henry County Police Department, and the City of Locust Grove Police Department.

A separate check presentation ceremony was held for each department in January.

“Receiving the support of local businesses, like the Tanger Outlet Center, is very important to us,” said Henry Police Chief Keith Nichols. “The money donated by Tanger will be used for equipment needed for our women’s self-defense classes.”

The outlet center features more than 65 name brand stores, and is located off I-75, at exit 212.

“We really appreciated the money,” said Locust Grove Police Chief Jesse Patton. “The money will be spent to give back to the community through our community oriented policing programs. We will purchase items for our ‘Say No To Drugs and ‘Buckle Up for Safety’ programs,” he added.

“We are very proud to show our support for these wonderful organizations that mean so much to our community,” said Holly Duffey, general manager of the Tanger Outlet Center.

“These men and women give of themselves all year long, and help make Henry County a great place to live and work. They are the real heroes in our community.”

Nationally, Tanger raised, and donated, more than $1.1 million in 2011 to fight breast cancer as part of its “TangerStyle Pink” campaign, including $22,000 donated to Piedmont Henry Medical Center and Henry County Cancer Services. Since 1994, Tanger has raised more than $10 million, nationally, to support that cause, officials with the company reported.
