Henry County Commission Chairman Elizabeth “B.J.” Mathis is one of the newest members of the board of directors of the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA).

Mathis was recently named to the board by Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal. The chairman said she is “humbled” by the appointment.

“I look forward to serving the governor in this capacity, and believe this is a tremendous opportunity for Henry County residents to have their voices heard on the transportation challenges we are facing as a region,” said Mathis. “I hope citizens will work with me to share ideas as we tackle the tough issues and fulfill the economic vision of establishing Henry County as the gateway to the region.” She will join Henry County developer J.T. Williams, on the 15-member board.

“By working collaboratively with other boards and authorities, the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority is working to improve Georgia’s mobility, air quality and land use practices by leading Georgia’s effort to set clear expectations and specific goals for the performance of the state’s transportation network,” said Julie Hoover-Ernst, Henry County spokesperson. “The four primary areas of GRTA’s focus include strategic transportation performance, today’s regional transit, future regional transit infrastructure and rural and human services transportation.”
