McDonough - Families in Henry County are being encouraged to particpiate in Back to School events in anticipation of the start of the 2012-13 school year, which begins Monday, Aug. 6.

The events — to be hosted over the next two weekends — include family-friend activities, giveaways and resources related to schools and families.

Events include:

• Henry County Board of Education Vice Chair Erik Charles is sponsoring a Back to School event Saturday, July 14, from 10 a.m., until 1 p.m., at Stockbridge High School in Stockbridge. The school is located at 1151 Old Conyers Road. To learn more, call Charles at (678) 462-4670

• The Henry County Communities in Schools Parent Expo will be held on Saturday, July 21, at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, from 10 a.m., until 3 p.m. The Atlanta Motor Speedway is located at 1500 Tara Place. For more information, call (770) 288-6230, or visit www.cis-henry.org.

• Henry County Commissioner Bruce Holmes’ Youth Foundation plans to sponsor a Back to School event Saturday, July 21, at Red Oak United Methodist Church in Stockbridge, from 10 a.m., until 2 p.m. Red Oak United Methodist Church is located at 3894 Walt Stephens Rd.
