HENRY SCHOOL NOTEBOOK/June 14, 2012: Adult Education Honor Society nominees recognized

Southern Crescent Technical College inducted its first group of Adult Education students and graduates into the National Adult Education Honor Society (NAEHS) on May 2.

Adult Education instructors nominated 63 inductees, based on attendance, cooperation and work ethics. Inductees include Henry County residents Maria Cabrera, Sheron Charles, Garfield Cousins, Brittany Ellington, Rosa Guevara, Michael Hauthaler, Joseph Mitchell, Thomas Benton Oxley, Annette Patterson, Silke Spates, and Amanda Zambrano. They were presented letters of recommendation for employment from the NAEHS headquarters, an NAEHS membership certificate, and a pin during the ceremony.

Locals get honors at Southern Crescent Tech

Southern Crescent Technical College recently announced its Spring Semester 2012 President’s List. In order to obtain this distinction, a student must be enrolled full-time and maintain a perfect grade-point average of 4.0.

Shorter University announces spring graduates

Several locals were among those earning degrees this spring at Shorter University in Rome, Ga. They included McDonough residents Robert Coons, Gregory Dixon Lee Cooper, Clinton Scott Harrison, Rhonda Maddox, Willie Alfred Potter, Jovanni Robbins, Phillip Dierre Stembridge, and Sarah Lindsey Weaver; Stockbridge residents Quincy Arnold, Elisha Beausoliel, Sharon Elizabeth Kenerly, Crystal Jeanette Lyons, Jennifer Martin, Jennifer Martin, and Robin Smith; Ellenwood residents Deonte Raymon Baker, Chandria Cheree Conaway, Tasonya Lyons, Layondra Evonne Nolton, and Starlett Monique Thomas; and Hampton residents Margo Atwater, James Edward Dinkins, Kam Weldon, and Bernadette Whatley.

Beall earns degree from Duke University

McDonough resident Erin Beall recently earned a Master of Divinity from Duke Divinity School. Beall, the daughter of Rob and Lisa Beall, of McDonough, is a graduate of Henry County High School. She also has graduated from The Advanced Academy at the University of West Georgia, and Georgia College and State University.

UGA-Griffin hosts academic showcase, Thursday

The University of Georgia at Griffin campus plans to host an Academic Program Showcase on Thursday, from noon until 2 p.m., providing prospective students the opportunity to learn more about its available degree programs.

Military notes

Navy Seaman Niambi Ibim, daughter of Asheya Ibim of Atlanta, and Sobrasua Ibim, of Hampton, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.
