A fatal accident involving a Hampton official is scheduled to be presented by Henry County Police Traffic Investigators to a grand jury to determine if charges will be filed against one of the drivers.

Samantha Pendley Delong Kirby, 46, died Monday as a result of the auto accident. Kirby was alone in her BMW during the collision with a dump truck hauler, driven by Hampton City Councilman Harold Walls.

The crash occurred Monday at the intersection of Georgia Highway 42 and Pine Grove Drive, north of Locust Grove.

“Weather was a factor to the accident and is still under investigation by the Henry County Police Traffic Unit,” said Henry Police Sgt. Joey Smith. “Kirby was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

Funeral services for Kirby are scheduled for Friday, at 11 a.m., at Henry Baptist Church, located at 4035 Jodeco Road, in McDonough.

Hampton City Manager Andy Pippin declined to issue a statement specific to the accident without knowing details of the matter.

“I will say, though, that we at the city will continue to pray for the family of the deceased and for Mr. Walls as I know this was a traumatic experience,” said Pippin.

Walls was elected last November to the city council. He is the married father of two children and three grandchildren. The councilman has lived in Hampton for more than 40 years.

Henry Daily Herald reporter Johnny Jackson contributed to this report.

Maybe Mr. Pippin should state his definition of traumatic. A lot of protection is being provided to Mr. Walls. Most fatal accidents require the driver's to submit to testing for drugs and/or alcohol. Mr. Walls wasn't required to do either. Take an average citizen in Henry County and you can bet you would be tested.
