As the lone senior on the Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy roster, Kevin Martin had some high expectations.
Apparently the Tennessee Tech signee was able to deliver as he led the Chargers into the quarterfinals of the Class A playoffs.
Coaches in the region took note of Martin’s performance as he was named the Region 9-A Player of the Year recently. In addition, four other ELCA players were named to the first team while three others were second team selections.
Named to the first team was shortstop D.J. Curl, catcher Cameron Ragsdale and outfielders Jacob Heyward and Dazmon Cameron. The second team consisted of outfielder Andrew Gomez and pitchers Patrick Busscher and Matthew Hammers.
Martin was key in helping the Chargers clinch the Region 9-A championship with a win over Landmark Christian in the title game.
On the season, Martin had a 12-1 record and a 1.20 ERA. He had 152 strikeouts in 82 innings this season as the Chargers went 25-7. ELCA won 10 straight before losing its best-of-three quarterfinals playoff series 2-1 to George Walton last week.

Heyward ended the season on a tear by hitting homers in three of the team’s last four games. On the season, he hit .333 with six home runs and 30 RBIs.
