HAMPTON — For the first time ever, the Georgia State Fair is coming to Henry County.
Atlanta Motor Speedway is gearing up to host the festivities Oct. 26-Nov. 4.
The fair will feature more than 50 midway rides and a petting zoo with animal displays. Additional attractions include an aerialist act, a motorcycle stunt show, the Lady Houdini Escape Artist and comedian and juggler Alex Zerbe.
Hampton City Manager Andy Pippin expressed his excitement about the fair coming to his city.
“Up until now this fair took place in Macon, but attendance numbers have dwindled in recent years, partly due to increased criminal activity on the fairgrounds and parking lots,” said Pippin. “Many reasons led the owners of the fair to choose AMS, not the least of which is our low crime rate in Hampton and west Henry County.”
Pippin said the speedway’s close proximity to I-75, I-85 and U.S. 19/41 also contributed to the decision, making AMS “a logistical dream for anyone trying to move lots of people in and out of one particular area.”
“I believe this fair will draw people from south of Macon and north of Atlanta, west of Columbus and east of Madison,” said Pippin. “Economically, as long as all fair patrons spend money in Henry County, our SPLOST, LOST and E-SPLOST accounts will surely get a much-needed shot in the arm, which will benefit the county as well as the four cities in Henry County.”
More information about the fair will be featured in Saturday’s edition of the Henry Daily Herald.
