McDONOUGH — The city will be brimming with activity on the Square Saturday.
McDonough’s Community Day is set for noon to 10 p.m. and will include concerts and a Merchants Sidewalk Sale, said Main Street McDonough Program Director Linda Schenk.
“We have entertainment from 12 to 1 and then from 2 to 4,” she said. “Then we have the McDonough Rhythm Section from 7 to 10. It’s going to be an all-day event.”
Other scheduled performers are DannyRay and 3-Way Street Band. Funnel cakes, cotton candy, sand art and candy art also will be available.
Residents are invited to the city of McDonough for several September events showcasing downtown.
Schenk’s program will sponsor Ladies Night Out Thursday from 6-10 p.m. Shops on the city’s Square will stay open late for the event designed to showcase local businesses.
Through Saturday, Image Doctor Photograph Restoration at 10 Macon St. is hosting McDonough Historic Photo Week. Patrons can bring pictures of officials, places and events from McDonough’s history to have them preserved, said store owner Scott Evans.
“You bring in any historic photo of McDonough or a prominent person in McDonough history, and we’ll make a copy of that for you — a digital copy — and e-mail that for you so that you can share it with your family and friends, plus make you a free 5x7,” said Evans. “In return, we get to use that, possibly, in a big display we’re doing in all of the restaurants on the Square.”
Evans said he and his staff will choose 50 of the best photos, enlarge them to 11x14 size and have them framed through G Gallery Custom Framing. The photos will be auctioned off in November at a gala benefiting A Friend’s House, a home for abused, neglected and abandoned children, he said.
The city’s Cinema On the Green series will continue on the Square Sept. 29 at 8 p.m. with a showing of “Dr. Seuss: The Lorax.”
