James Willard (Bubba) Godwin, Sr., of Locust Grove, passed away Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at his residence. He was born on March 21, 1949, in Atlanta, to the late Julian Kutner Godwin and Jessie M. Ayers Godwin. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, receiving the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. He enjoyed motorcycle riding, telling jokes and making others laugh, and loved spending time with his family. He is preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Godwin, and sisters, Teresa Godwin and Wanda Cook.
James is survived by his wife, Reneé Jordan Godwin, of Locust Grove; daughter, Misty Godwin, of Locust Grove; three sons and daughters-in-law, James and MaryAnn Godwin, of Locust Grove, Steve and Rachael Godwin, of Molina, Ga., Jesse Godwin, of Locust Grove; grandchildren, Destin, James III, Gabby, Kevin, Summer and Aiden; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tracy and Kaye Godwin, of Monroe, Timothy and Kat Godwin, of McDonough; half-brother Tommy Savage; sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy and Fred Moore, Debra and Harry Knissel, Jeannie Godwin, all of Jackson, Sandra Sauls, of Lake City; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for James (Bubba) Godwin, Sr. will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Sherrell Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jerry Hewitt officiating. Entombment will be at Locust Grove City Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday evening.
