MCDONOUGH — Henry County police are investigating the shooting death of a teenager apparently by his brother, said officials.
Sgt. Joey Smith said the shooting was reported about 2:41 a.m. Saturday at a home on Deer Trace Drive in McDonough.
Smith said two brothers living at the home were having a sleepover with a third teenager. Smith said the three boys had been in possession of the brothers' mother's handgun earlier in the evening but it was unloaded.
At some point during the night or early morning hours, one of the boys loaded the weapon, he said.
"The 14-year-old at some point pointed the weapon at his brother and pulled the trigger, which resulted in the 15-year-old being struck in the chest," said Smith.
The victim was pronounced dead, he said.
This shooting has been ruled as accidental and is still under investigation, said Smith.
The facts will be presented to the Henry County District Attorney's Office for possible prosecution of both the juvenile and the mother, he said.
