McDONOUGH — Shiloh Baptist Church’s Career Development Committee will host a free job-readiness workshop Saturday.
The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the church’s Education Center at 262 Macon Drive in McDonough.
Attendees will get help with résumé writing, interviewing tips, professional dress, job searches and entrepreneurial projects, said Committee Chairman Debra Collins.
Collins, a certified career counselor who teaches at Forest Park High School, said ongoing economic struggles in the area helped spark the workshop.
“I had a lady call me and tell me that she had been a housewife so long, she doesn’t know how to get started to apply for jobs in this area and do interviews,” said Collins. “So, she’s coming to the workshop.”
The church hosted its first job-readiness workshop last summer, but only about 10 people attended. Collins said she is hoping for a larger turnout this time around.
“That’s why we’re trying to reach out to more of the community,” she said. “We’ve got more people that need assistance.”
Participants will be able to search for employment online and get tips on how to land a job. Past and present employees of companies including Delta Airlines and AT&T will be on hand for the event, along with representatives from the Georgia Department of Education.
Pre-registration is not required for the workshop. Courtesy calls can be made at 678-856-7645.
