McDONOUGH - Southern Community Newspapers, Inc., owner of the Henry Daily Herald, announced a reorganization plan Monday that changes several top positions at the company’s seven newspapers.
"Today I am announcing a restructuring of SCNI that throws out the legacy organizational chart newspapers have employed for years and replaces it with a streamlined business structure," said Michael J. Gebhart, executive vice president and chief operating officer of SCNI.
"The new organizational chart breaks down the geographic walls of seven different newspapers and opens our company to more opportunity to collaborate and share resources across all properties," he said.
Rather than operate as separate newspapers, Gebhart said, the lines of organization will be drawn by department such as newsroom, advertising, circulation, production and business.
As a result of the reorganization, the positions of publisher and advertising director are being eliminated at all seven SCNI newspapers.
Among changes affecting the local newspaper are:
• Henry Daily Herald Publisher Bonnie Pratt will become General Sales Manager at the McDonough newspaper.
• J.K. Murphy, publisher of the Gwinnett Daily Post, Rockdale Citizen and Newton Citizen will become SCNI’s vice president of Content. Editors at all SCNI locations including the Henry Daily Herald will report to Murphy. He will continue to be based in Gwinnett.
• SCNI Vice President of Advertising Bob McCray will become SCNI’s VP of Sales and Marketing with responsibility for Advertising and Circulation sales.
• Atlanta Circulation Director Thom Bell will become Corporate Circulation Director.
