Golf Tournament

Henry County Parks and Recreation is hosting the first ever Golf Tournament Fore Athletes benefiting the Parks and Recreation Special Olympics. The tournament will be held at 9 a.m. on March 16 at the Cotton Fields Golf Club, 400 Industrial Blvd. in McDonough. Entry fees are $75 per person or $300 per four-man team. Stomp Competition

Henry County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. will host the 14th Annual Stomp D.A.T. & Dance Competition starting at 4 p.m. on March 23. The even will be held at Dutchtown High School. The theme is STOMP OUT DRUGS, ALCOHOL, TOBACCO and will feature Rye Sunshine, an 11-year-old singer, songwriter and model, who will perform during the halftime show. Mental Health

Symposium

Henry County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. will host its 4th Annual Armed with Knowledge Symposium on Mental Health April 6 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Henry County Middle School, 166 Holly Smith Dr. in McDonough. The symposium will include expert panelists, mental health survivors, Georgia statistics, resources and health advocates. The goals are to identify: the symptoms of mental illness, how big is the problem for children and young adults, where to find help in Georgia and what to do in a crisis situation. Plant Sale

The McDonough Garden Club invites the community to its plant sale from 8 a.m. to noon on April 13 at the McDonough City Market, behind Moye’s Pharmacy at Hazlehurst Street and John Frank Ward Boulevard. Father-Daughter Dance

The Henry County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. invites the community to the third annual Father-Daughter Dance. AARP Driver Safety

The AARP Driver Safety Course is an opportunity to give back to your community as a volunteer instructor. You will receive training and resources to encourage course attendees to drive safely and drive well. Addiction Recovery

The Faith In Action Recovery Support Group is a faith-based addiction recovery support program that incorporates Biblical principles with the 12-step program. The group meets at 7 p.m. the first Monday of each month in the Mount Olive Community Outreach Center, 470 Mount Olive Road in Stockbridge. Email mobc@bellsouth.org for additional information.

After-School Care

Every Chain

Join the Southside Christian Fellowship church, 750 Mount Carmel Road in McDonough, at 6:30 p.m. every third Saturday of the month for Breaking Every Chain of Bondage and Addiction, a journey to recovery through music, drama and teaching. ESL

Fairview Public Library, 28 Austin Road in Stockbridge, holds free adult English as a second language classes for beginners at 5 p.m. Thursdays, intermediate speakers at 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays and advanced speakers at 12:30 p.m. Wednesdays.

Homestead Hospice

Families Anonymous

McDonough Group 1951 is hosting monthly meetings. The groups will meet at Wesley Way United Methodist Church, 150 John Wesley Way, at 7 p.m. the second and fourth Monday of each month. Families Anonymous is a worldwide, 12-step self-help program for relatives and friends concerned about and affected by substance abuse or behavioral problems of a loved one. Henry County 912

The Henry County 912 regroup will hold its meetings at 7 p.m. the fourth Monday of each month at the SPLOST room, 108 S. Zack Hinton Parkway in McDonough.

Host Families Needed

Host families are needed for foreign exchange students. Participants will learn about another culture and make a friend for life in the process. Students attend local high school for one school year. All students are well-screened, bring their own money and have great insurance. They will not drive or drink. For more information, call 770-477-1376.

All five branches of the Henry County Library are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fridays.

Recycling Program

The city of McDonough Public Works Department is starting a recycling program. Residents can drop off large items for recycling or disposal at 77 Lawrenceville St. from 8:30 a.m. to noon the third Saturday of the month.

Story Time

Children and families are invited to attend story time every Wednesday at all five Henry County Public Library locations.

Monthly Meeting
