Victim identified in fatal wrong-way accident

Jacie Webb, 12, of Griffin, died as a result of injuries sustained when a wrong-way driver struck two other vehicles on Georgia Hwy. 19/41 in Hampton June 9.

HAMPTON — A 12-year-old who was killed in a wrong-way wreck involving three vehicles Sunday has been identified.

Henry County Police say Jacie Webb of Griffin died as a result of her injuries.

Six people were injured in the accident, which happened June 9 on Ga. Highway 19/41 just north of Circle Drive in Hampton.

Police say a white Ford F-150 was driving northbound in the southbound lanes when it collided with a red Mitsubishi Galant and a black Chevrolet Suburban. Webb was a passenger in the second row of the Suburban, said Henry County Police spokesman Capt. Joey Smith.

While the investigation continues, Smith said the driver of the F-150, who remains hospitalized, was at fault and that police are considering this a possible DUI case. The driver had not been charged as of press time.

All three drivers plus three passengers in the Suburban were transported to local hospitals.

A Facebook group is organizing a memorial baseball tournament in Griffin on June 29 in honor of Webb. Interested parties can visit at bit.ly/2Zf6zBL for details.
