Andrew Clyde authored an amendment to the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies spending bill that would bar the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from renaming projects, such as the lake and the dam, that are named for people who fought for the Confederacy during the Civil War.

U.S. Rep. Andrew Clyde is pushing to ban the Army Corps of Engineers from changing the names of Lake Lanier and Buford Dam months after the Corps began — and then paused — efforts to rename them because of their ties to people fought for the Confederacy during the Civil War.

The House Appropriations Committee voted last week to adopt two amendments Clyde offered to the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies spending bill.
