The city of McDonough has extended its moratorium for multi-family rezoning requests.

MCDONOUGH — The McDonough City Council voted to extend the moratorium on multi-family and hotel developments during its Aug. 19 meeting. The moratorium will be lifted “almost immediately” after the Council has finished making updates to the city of McDonough’s comprehensive plan and zoning code, according to City Attorney Emilia Walker.

The multi-family moratorium was first implemented in May 2022 and it has been extended multiple times. It was updated to include hotel developments in February 2023. According to Andrew Baker, the deputy city administrator, the moratorium remains in place to help ensure that future development in McDonough aligns with the updates to the city’s comprehensive plan and zoning code.
