HAMPTON – Councilwoman Ann Tarpley held her Back 2 School Bash event over the weekend at McBrayer Park near Hampton Charter Elementary School.

During the event, the Hampton community was supplied with backpacks and school supplies, Tarpley said on Monday morning.

In addition, families from around the community lined up for free food and autographs from Michael Turner, a former NFL player who spent the last four seasons of his career with the Atlanta Falcons.

Turner signed autographs in the main pavilion of McBrayer Park, halfway between the playgrounds and Hampton Charter Elementary School.

On Monday, Tarpley said in an email that the event was well-attended, noting that lines were long for school supplies.

Tarpley said on Monday that she was able to supply over 300 bookbags to families who needed them with the help of sponsors Soul Changers Recovery, Waste Industries and Falcon Design.

The summer break is nearing its end for Henry County students, including those in Hampton. The 2019-2020 school year starts on Aug. 1 in the county.
