ELLENWOOD – The 2019 Sickle Cell-abration 5K Run Walk, sponsored by District 5 County Commissioner Bruce Holmes, will be held Saturday, Sept. 14.

The event will start at 8:30 a.m. with on-site registration beginning at 7 a.m. The event will be held at Village Park, located at 750 Fairview Road in Ellenwood.

A pre-race warm-up and dance will be held at 8 a.m.

The event is jointly hosted by the Association of Nigerian Physicians (ANPA) and the Nigerian Women’s Association (NWAG). Proceeds from the event will go toward fighting Sickle Cell disease, as well as other ANPA and NWAG projects.

“I’m proud to be associated with this health and wellness initiative, and the Association of Nigerian Physicians to cure Sickle Cell with this 5K run through the village,” Holmes said in a press release. “This initiative will promote both health and wellness and economic development, as well as brand Fairview as a major destination for health care and wellness. I hope families in our community will participate, get involved and prepare for a healthier future.”

Prizes will be awarded for the top three male and female finishers in the 4-15 age group, and the top male and female finishers in the 16 and older age group.
