McDONOUGH – The Campground Road Extension is open for business.

On Monday, Vivian Thomas, District 4 commissioner for Henry County, will hold a ribbon cutting celebrating the completion of the extension of the road.

The ribbon cutting will be held at the intersection of Winbrook Drive and Campground Road in McDonough at 10 a.m. on Aug. 26.

The Campground Road Extension was a SPLOST III project, which was approved in 2007. The project, budgeted at nearly $13 million, is a 3-mile, four-lane extension project aimed at relieving congestion on Jodeco Road and Ga. Highway 42. The road connects the existing Campground Road to Jodeco Road.

While funding was approved with SPLOST III in 2007, work did not start for another 10 years, getting going in late 2017.

The new roadway will continue across the intersection at Ga. Highway 42 where it meets with the existing Campground Road, just before the Brannan Road/Campground Road intersection.

On Friday, barricades still appeared on Campground Road’s new intersection with Jodeco Road, but construction appeared to be complete, while cones on Jodeco Road appeared to block off some of the lanes leading up to the new intersection.

However, some motorists were seen on the new road, in spite of the barricades.
