County to decriminalize mental illness in Henry County Jail

MCDONOUGH — At its regular meeting on June 6, a resolution was brought before the Henry County Board of Commissioners in support of the national “Stepping Up Initiative” which will work to decriminalize and bring attention to mental illness in the Henry County Jail.

The initiative aims to reduce the number of incarcerated individuals who are experiencing symptoms of mental illness and who would be better served in a mental health treatment environment. The measure was approved unanimously.
