McDONOUGH — Early voting for the presidential preference and the general primary election begins on May 18.

The elections were delayed from March 24 and May 19 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The primary election day is set for June 9, with the general election on Nov. 3. Runoff elections will be held on Aug. 11.

Poll workers will be wearing personal protective equipment to include masks and gloves. Brook Schreiner, poll coordinator, said poll workers will be sanitizing every machine after each use. Every 30 minutes, bathrooms will be cleaned and things like door handles will be disinfected. Schreiner said voters should expect a longer wait times and possibly longer lines due to machine cleaning and social distancing guidelines. Only 10 voters will be allowed inside at one time.

To help cut down on time spent at machines, Schreiner “highly encourages” residents to take a look at their sample ballots before coming in to vote. To see sample ballots, visit www.mvp.sos.ga.gov/. Residents can check their absentee ballot status on the site as well.

While voters will not be required to wear a mask inside voting locations, Schreiner said she encourages residents to do so and “be courteous of others.”
