HAMPTON — A man is dead and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into an officer-involved shooting in Hampton early Wednesday.
According to the GBI, Hampton Police responded to a North Avenue home around 3:52 a.m. for a welfare check. There, they encountered William Harris, 51, who allegedly threatened to kill the officers, then fired at them. An officer fired back and Harris went back inside the house.
When Henry County Police SWAT arrived and burst into the house, the GBI said, they found Harris dead with a gun nearby. No officers were injured.
