MCDONOUGH — Construction is set to begin on a new multi-purpose gym addition at Hampton High School.

On Monday, the Henry County school board unanimously voted to award MEJA Construction the contract to build the new facility at a cost of $5.1 million. Of six bidders, MEJA Construction was the lowest bidder.

SPLOST V monies will be used to fund the addition. The project is part of the SPLOST V initiative to include a new multi-purpose facility at each of the district’s high schools.

Last month, the board approved Lichty Commercial Construction to build a multi-purpose facility at Stockbridge High School for $4.9 million.
