Henry BOE withdraws superintendent contract offer

MCDONOUGH — The Henry County Board of Education voted to rescind the contract offer to its sole finalist for the position of superintendent at a special called meeting Monday. The meeting was initially called to discuss the potential contract details for Dr. Timothy Gadson.

The discussions around the contract details were held in closed session. Upon the conclusion of closed session, board members returned to the board room where Josh Hinton made the motion to rescind the contract offer. Holly Cobb seconded the motion and the motion passed 3-2 with Dr. Donna McBride and Annette Edwards voting in opposition.

The board will now start the process anew to find the next superintendent for the eighth largest system in Georgia. Superintendent Rodney Bowler remains on the job until the end of September.

Board Chair Dr. Pam Nutt provided the following statement regarding the latest development:

“We want to thank Dr. Gadson for his consideration and interest in our school system. This process to find the next superintendent to lead our schools has been done with the best interest of our students, employees, and community at heart. With that being said, the contract demands of Dr. Gadson far exceeded what has been traditionally extended to previous superintendents by way of salary and compensation packages. The board will now start the search process over again.”
