LOCUST GROVE – All around the county, residents celebrated America’s Independence Day in their own way, with barbecues, fireworks and music, among other things. As the sun set in Henry County on Thursday evening, the sound of fireworks filled the air from both excited locals and from professionals, such as those in Locust Grove. In Locust Grove, a large crowd congregated at Warren Holder Park for a day filled with entertainment, music and what was billed as the largest fireworks show south of Atlanta. Throughout the hot and humid afternoon, attendees could take refuge in the water zone, the bouncy houses, or even with helicopter rides offered throughout the day. On the stage, musicians such as Hannah McGarity, Mad Margritt, No Limitz, Steel Rose and Pitboss, as well as DJ Frosty, entertained the crowd on hand for the event before the launch of fireworks after dark. The event was one of several large-scale events in Henry County to celebrate Independence Day. In Hampton, the Atlanta Motor Speedway held a special edition of its Friday Night Drags event, punctuated by a fireworks show, while the city of Hampton held a July 4 celebration in front of Hampton City Hall and the Historic Train Depot.
