Henry County BOE attorneys to appeal ‘self-defense ruling to the state Supreme Court

State Sen. Emanuel Jones

McDONOUGH — Henry County school board attorneys plan to move forward in litigating a former student’s “self-defense” case at the Supreme Court of Georgia.

The case, Henry County Board of Education v. S.G., was upheld in May by the Georgia Court of Appeals, which affirmed an earlier lower court ruling. The appellate court stated that the local school board “abused its discretion by failing properly to apply self-defense standards” when it expelled a student for fighting on school grounds in January 2014.
