Henry County Police Department taking Spring Citizens Police Academy applications through Feb. 27

Henry County Police Department Citizens Police Academy participants learn about firearms safety and the law during the 11-week course.

McDONOUGH — The Henry County Police Department is taking applications through Feb. 27 for its spring Citizens Police Academy.

The class gives citizens a chance to learn about police work and the criminal justice system and meets on Tuesdays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., March 10 through May 19. 

Topics include crime prevention and community-based policing, drugs, gangs, DUI and traffic enforcement, investigations, the Use of Force Model and use of force, firearms safety and the law, plus a tour of the Henry County Jail.

Applicants must pass a background check. You can download the required paperwork online at http://www.co.henry.ga.us/Departments/PublicSafetyEmergencyServices/PoliceDepartment.aspx , fill it out and return it to Henry County Police Dept., 108 S. Zack Hinton Pkwy., McDonough, GA 30253.
