Rivian Automotive is developing a facility in Morgan and Walton counties where it will manufacture electric vehicles.

MADISON — A Morgan County Superior Court Judge on Tuesday dismissed a lawsuit brought by several Morgan County residents seeking to force application of local zoning regulations on the Rivian development.

Judge Stephen A. Bradley dismissed the claim based on the fact that the property is owned by the state and “is not subject to local zoning ordinances.” Bradley found that based on legal precedent, “by allowing a private enterprise to operate on state-owned lands the state has effectively immunized them from local regulations and oversight.”
