MCDONOUGH – The Delta Community Credit Union Philanthropic Fund recently awarded a total of $12,500 to two local nonprofits.

Crosswalk Ministries, which has locations in Stockbridge and McDonough, received a $5,000 grant that is earmarked to fund its ARTreach 180 program for teenagers. Referrals for students to participate in ARTreach 180 come from many sources, such as school guidance counselors, psychiatrists and parole officers.

“Seventy-five percent of juvenile crime occurs in the first three hours after school gets out,” said Gina Moore, Crosswalk Ministries’ co-founder. “ARTreach 180 offers teens a safe place to explore different art forms, including drama – which can help troubled kids learn how to build healthy relationships and resolve conflicts in a non-violent way.”

Community Outreach in Action, in Jonesboro, was also awarded $7,500 for its Kids Zone Food Pantry, which offers nutritious food to underserved children.

The Delta Community grants to ARTreach 180 and the Kids Zone Food Pantry are among the last awards from the credit union’s 2020 Philanthropic Fund. Applications for a 2021 Delta Community Philanthropic Fund grant will be accepted until Aug. 31 and must be submitted through the Delta Community Credit Union website.
