To the editor:

As Delaware Senate candidates, Christine O'Donnell (R) and Chris Coons (D), debated the teaching of creationism in the public schools, on Oct. 19, it became clear that all such debates will always come down to the connection between the First Amendment and the phrase "separation of church and state." Ken Paulson, president of the First Amendment Center, was prompted by what he perceived as a lack of knowledge on the subject to enlighten all of America with "a quick take on what the First Amendment does and does not say." Paulson states two opinions and one fact that he feels supports his distorted view of the concept of "separation of church and state."
