Residents should expect heavy traffic delays due to road closures on July 31 for the city's annual Geranium Festival.

McDONOUGH — The Geranium Festival might seem like a long way off, but if you’re planning to travel through the city on July 31, now is the time to start planning an alternate route.

Ga. Highways 20, 42 and 81 leading to the McDonough Courthouse Square will close temporarily at 11:59 p.m. on July 30 and remain closed until 9 p.m. on July 31.

The McDonough Police Department warns that drivers should expect heavy delays in the area.

When planning travel routes, keep in mind that portions of Interstate 75 north and southbound in Henry and Clayton counties will close lanes due to ongoing work on the weekend.

The Geranium Festival will take place on July 31 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
