McDONOUGH — The start of the second semester at Henry County Schools not only marks the halfway point in the school year, but it’s also the start of the fiscal year 2020-21 budget discussions.

As in years past, the budget planning will start with input from the community. A Community Conversation is planned for Feb. 10 at 6 p.m. in the district’s board room.

During the March 9 study session, Superintendent Mary Elizabeth Davis will present the fiscal year 2021 budget overview. It will be posted on the HCS website for the public.

From that point a tentative budget will be introduced and adopted by the board along with two hearings to give the community an opportunity to ask questions and make suggestions.

A final budget is expected to be adopted in May.

The following is the fiscal year 2021 budget calendar:

♦ Feb. 10, 6 p.m. — community conversation

♦ March 9, 6 p.m. — budget overview presentation

♦ April 20, 6 p.m. — present tentative budget

♦ April 20, 6:30 p.m. — first of two budget hearings

♦ April 20, 7 p.m. — adopt tentative budget

♦ May 11, 6 p.m. — present fiscal year 2021 final budget

♦ May 11, 6:30 p.m. — budget hearing

♦ May 11, 7 p.m. — adopt fiscal year 2021 final budget

All meetings, the community conversation and budget hearings will be held at the district’s Administrative Offices, 33 North Zack Hinton Pkwy. in McDonough.
