Over 1,000 of them were waiting at the gates. Some had been there since before sunrise. As the hour drew nearer to the moment of their anticipation's focus strange moods overtook the crowd.

They moved like a glacier of humanity at first, slow but steady and with force. Their lurch was shifting the mass towards the entry gates of the Richmond International Raceway. The eventual target was a pile of 4-year-old Apple iBook laptops, and in a few minutes you would believe this throng was surging towards the last bottle of drinkable water on planet Earth.
