It is time to spring forward. As clocks are being adjusted one hour forward for Daylight Saving Time early Sunday morning, the Henry County Fire Department is reminding residents to change the batteries in their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.

Henry County Fire Capt. Sabrina Puckett said an average of two children per day die in home fires and that 80 percent of those occur in homes without working smoke alarms. She added that non-working smoke alarms rob residents of the protective benefits home fire-safety devices were designed to provide and that the most commonly cited cause of non-working smoke alarms are worn or missing batteries.
