Artie Steele
Artie Steele, 77, Hampton, Georgia, passed away Friday morning, November 22, 2019, at Brightmoor Hospice surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Ocala, Florida, on September 27, 1942, the son of Joseph Walter Steele and Lucille Mulkey Steele. He was a 1961 graduate of Henry County High School and attended Falls College School of Drafting in Atlanta, earning his drafting credentials in 1965. Art was employed with Union Camp Corporation as a design engineer for 25 years and with Delta Airlines for 10 years, retiring in 2005. After retirement he continued to work part-time, most recently for the City of Hampton. He was a long-time supporter/volunteer with Crosswalk Ministries youth detention ministry and Artreach 180 after school program for at-risk youth. Art was a celebrated and talented artist, with many of his paintings displayed in and around Hampton and Henry County. He was a life-long member of Berea Christian Church. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, gardening, golf, archery, traveling and spending time with his family and friends. He also loved animals, especially his 2 dogs and 4 cats. Art is survived by his wife of 46 years, Marjorie Jackson Steele, sons Jeff Jones of Decatur, Georgia, Jimmy (Alicia) Jones of Hampton, Georgia, 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, aunts, uncles, several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 8, 2019, at 3:00 pm, at Berea Christian Church, 37 Woolsey Road, Hampton, Georgia. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Crosswalk Ministries Artreach 180 program, P. O. Box 1613, McDonough, GA 30253.
