Mr. Darryl Gene Nealis
Mr. Darryl Gene Nealis, 82, of Hampton, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at Brightmoor Hospice in Griffin, GA.
Born on June 26, 1936, in Augusta, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Lloyd and Nellie Alice Smith of Romney, West Virginia. A U.S. Air Force veteran, Mr. Nealis retired from Southern Railway after 25 years of service. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, and most of all tinkering with his tractor.
He was a dedicated member of Hampton First Baptist Church, who studied his bible daily and delighted in listening to commentaries. More than anything he desired a deeper relationship with his Lord and Savior.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Frances Deweyetta Nealis; daughter, Leisa Nealis Phillips (Clint) of Griffin, GA; sons, Robert Darryl "Bobby" Nealis and Lloyd Russell "Rusty" Nealis (Tammy) of Hampton, GA; grandchildren, Jonathon Phillips (Linsey) of Jefferson, GA; Anna Nealis and Declan Nealis of Hampton, GA; Jodie Phillips Combs of Griffin, GA; great grandchildren, William Clint "Liam" Phillips and Charlee Kate Phillips of Jefferson, GA; sisters, Bonnie Smith and Nancy Merritt of Romney, W. VA, and Margie Smith (Fred) of Augusta, W. VA; aunt, Pearl Nealis, of Rome, Pennsylvania; niece, Donyela McCall (Mike) of Cashiers, North Carolina; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, April 14, 2019, at 2:00 p.m., at Hampton First Baptist Church, 85 McDonough Street, Hampton, GA, 30228. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
