Georgia Republicans have maintained their grip on the state House of Representatives and ousted its leading Democrat after a years-long push by Democrats to flip the chamber fell short in the 2020 general elections.

ATLANTA — The Georgia Senate passed legislation Monday that would bring additional scrutiny to the state’s lucrative tax credit and exemption programs.

A compromise bill to collect taxes on online sales overseen by large retailers like Amazon, plus the ride-share companies Uber and Lyft, was hashed out Thursday morning by a group of Georgia House and Senate lawmakers.
