Arizona State gave football coach Herm Edwards a two-year extension through the 2024 season Monday.

Edwards, 65, posted winning records and earned bowl invitations in each of his first two seasons with the Sun Devils.

"We have accomplished a lot in our first two years in Tempe and we look forward to continuing that momentum in all facets of our program," Edwards said in a release issued by the school. "Recruiting is the lifeblood of winning college football games and we are pleased with where we are and we look forward to continued improvement."

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Arizona State went 8-5 in 2019 and capped the season with a 20-14 victory against Florida State in the Sun Bowl on Dec. 31.

The Sun Devils were 7-6 in 2018, finishing with a 31-20 loss to Fresno State in the Las Vegas Bowl.

Arizona State hired Edwards on Dec. 3, 2017, to replace Todd Graham, who compiled a 46-32 record in six seasons in Tempe.

Edwards was the head coach of the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs (2006-08) and New York Jets (2001-05) before joining ESPN as an analyst in 2009.
