Vernon Denmark was named the new head coach of the Stockbridge Tigers boys basketball team earlier this week.

STOCKBRIDGE — The coaching search for the Stockbridge Tigers boys basketball program has come to an end.

The Tigers had to fill the coaching hole left by Rodney Latham earlier in the year. Latham compiled 102 wins in his seven years at Stockbridge and also took the Tigers to the Elite Eight in 2018.

Stepping in to fill his role is Vernon Denmark. Denmark spent most of his career in Rockdale County, from Rockdale County High to Heritage High.

During his tenure at Heritage, the school made the state playoffs for five consecutive years and placed as region tournament runner-up twice. In the 2017-18 season, the Patriots were able to win the region title and finished the season with a trip to the Class AAAAAA state Final Four.

This past season, Heritage repeated the feat with another trip to the Class AAAAAA state Final Four. Both seasons were the furthest Heritage basketball had gone in over 20 years.
