Coco Gauff received a wild-card entry Tuesday for the U.S. Open main draw, giving the 15-year-old from Florida an opportunity to follow up her thrilling run to the fourth round at Wimbledon.
Gauff currently ranks No. 140 in the world. The U.S. Open, her second Grand Slam event, begins on Aug. 26 at Flushing Meadows, N.Y.
She made her WTA Tour debut in March at the Miami Open and received a wild card into the qualifying draw at Wimbledon, where she became the youngest player to qualify for the main draw in the history of the tournament.
Gauff upset five-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams in the first round at the All-England Club and defeated Slovakia's Magdalena Rybarikova and Slovenia's Polona Hercog before falling to eventual champion Simona Halep of Romania in the Round of 16.
In 2017, Gauff made the finals of the girls' singles event at the U.S. Open and lost to fellow American Amanda Anisimova.
