The College Park Skyhawks used a season-high 62 first half points and 51 percent shooting from beyond the arc to take down the Canton Charge at home on Friday night, 128-99.
After the two teams traded buckets to begin the game, Kenny Gabriel hit a three before the buzzer to put the Skyhawks up 28-20 at the end of the first. Canton fought back and took the lead briefly, before Charlie Brown, Jr. and Jordan Sibert got to work.
The two combined for 19 points in the second quarter to help give the Skyhawks a 19-point lead going into the half. The Skyhawks didn’t let up in the second half, knocking down nine more threes in the quarter to take a 100-65 lead into the fourth.
The 30-point victory is the largest in franchise history.
College Park used a balanced approach on offense with six players scoring 10 points or more. Brown, Jr. led the way with 20 points, while Sibert added 19 on 4-8 shooting from the three-point line. Marcus Derrickson was a perfect 3-3 from beyond the arc and finished with 17 points on the night and Brandon Goodwin added 13. Kenny Gabriel, back after missing last game with a facial injury, contributed nine points and Sanjay Lumpkin added six in his second start.
The Skyhawks return to action tomorrow, taking on Canton in the second night of back-to-back. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Gateway Center Arena at College Park.
