STOCKBRIDGE — Stockbridge High has been the class of the southside for the better part of this decade, but the Tigers will need to replace more than 20 seniors who graduated earlier this spring.

Many new faces will hit the field for the Tigers on Aug. 24 for the season opener against Arabia Mountain. Stockbridge will then take on Carver-Atlanta in non-region action the following week.

Stockbridge will begin Region 4-AAAAA play against Locust Grove on Sept. 7 before hosting Eagle’s Landing the following week. A non-region game against Columbia and a region game against Ola will wrap up September.

A meeting with Union Grove will kick off October for Stockbridge. A bye in Week 9 will end a streak of seven straight games, setting up the Tigers for their final three contests of the season. On Oct. 19, Stockbridge will host Dutchtown and then Woodland the following week. Finally, the Tigers will travel to Jones County on Nov. 2 — a game that decided the region championship in 2017.

Strickland’s Spin: Stockbridge will look to defend its region title this season, beginning with a challenging contest at Locust Grove early in the season. If the Tigers can get through a run of seven straight games early in the season, a bye in Week 9 should provide an opportunity for rest for the home stretch. The final three games of the season are difficult, as Dutchtown and Jones County were state playoff teams a season ago.
